A demonstration of management and control of resources in large-scale network environments

アブストラクト
  Provisioning of virtual ICT infrastructure consisting of various types of resources on a large scale is one of the key technologies that are made use of in the future Internet testbeds [1]. In order to construct an efficient configuration of such virtual infrastructure in a scalable manner, it is vital to be able to coordinate the various resources distributed in multiple domains in order to meet the demands of various users. In addition, networking functionalities are required to be adaptively arranged and provided. A management technology for network and computing resources has been demonstrated mainly in the study of grid computing [2, 3]. However, management of resources with dynamically changing characteristics was not considered in those studies. In the future Internetworking, a scalable management and control platform which supports advanced networking functionalities such as packet processing in intermediate nodes is required. In this paper, the architecture of the management and control platform for large-scale resources is described. It is composed of three fundamental technologies as listed below: (1) Inter-domain resource management and control for large-scale resources, (2) application-oriented resource allocation for providing an appropriate virtual infrastructure, and (3) advanced relay node for flexible deployment of advanced networking functionalities. The demonstration was carried out using video conferencing and video contents delivery across multiple domains, and the result proved that the proposed platform has successfully configured QoS-aware virtual infrastructures for each application.
